LAND MATTERS

 Resources for learning

Evening service congregation looked at the topic of land justice in South Africa on 09 Sep and 16 Sep 2018. This is a pressing issue now in the media despite the conversation having begun years ago since democracy. All at PBC were welcome to attend--not just the evening congregation. We did not advertise this series beyond the PBC community as the aim was to create a safe learning space for the PBC family to grapple with this contested topic.

ORGANISATIONS

ORGANISATIONS

Reclaim the City is a Cape Town-based campaign for desegregation and affordable housing development in the inner-city. Launched on 13 February 2016, the campaign consists of an active chapter of domestic workers and low-income earners in Sea Point, supporters among poor tenants in Woodstock and Salt River, young professionals, high school pupils, students, and workers from across Cape Town. We believe that it is the State’s obligation to play a proactive role to reverse spatial apartheid in Cape Town.

RECLAIM THE CITY

Ndifuna Ukwazi supports Reclaim the City, an independent social movement of tenants and workers struggling with access to land and affordable housing who believe it is time to take the struggle justice and equality to the centre of the city, to the people who should live there, to the heart of power and to the land that matters. The movement has tapped into a deep sense of injustice in the city about the current model of exclusionary development, bearing in mind the history of apartheid spatial planning and forced removals.

Why Restitution?
South Africa’s painful past caused many traumatic memories and huge inequalities within societies. A peaceful future in South Africa is only possible through the healing of traumatic memories related to our racist past and the establishment of a more equal and just South African society. The Restitution Foundation believes this would be achieved through acts of restitution.

Who is the Restitution Foundation?
The Restitution Foundation is a Cape Town based non-profit organisation that promotes socio-economic justice, healing and reconciliation through restitution.
Mission: To be a catalyst for Restitution in South Africa.
Vision: To model restitution that will bring justice and healing to the nation.
